Collecting Action Figures. When garnering action figures you should collect as if they are fine pieces of art. You must not collect for investing purposes instead for the admiration of these works of art. If you like what you see then buy it. Even if it does not go up in value you can still delight in the aesthetics of your action figure. If you ever desired to collect as an investing opportunity then there are a few things you should know.
After washing prepare the base body removing unwanted accessories and features with pliers wire cutters an X-acto knife and a Dremel power tool with attachments as appropriate. You may need to soften areas of the body to ease this step. Run hot water over the body for 30 to 60 seconds to help make it softer and more pliable. You may repeat the hot water treatment as often as needed while you modify the base body. A nail buffer or very fine sand paper can be used to smooth and finish the body.
Caution for Packing - You also need to take care of the backing as that cardboard used is inexpensive and it can easily bend or peel apart when improperly handled. Also then natural oil of your finger may cause the inks on the packing card to discolor when touched too often. All these things lessen the mint value of the action figures toys as mostly the collectors are concerned of such thing while buying a `mint on card` action figure. So if you store your toys in boxes use sturdy plastic containers to keep out the excess humidity. Store each statue in separate plastic container.
Paint lightly and evenly over the entire body for the base layer taking care to not move the articulated joints as you paint. Let dry. After the base paint is dry move the joints to crack the paint making sure that the joints are not glued together with the paint then paint those spots that were not painted during the first pass. Put on another thin layer of paint where needed. Let dry.
